New London Awards success for JW3
JW3, a community centre for London’s Jewish population, has won a New London Architecture Award in the Civic, Cultural and Sport category at a ceremony at the Guildhall today.
The awards, which “recognise the very best in architecture, planning and development in the capital”, are run by New London Architecture and grant awards to schemes which can demonstrate a positive impact on their surroundings and make a wider contribution to the city. The JW3 won the award alongside Zaha Hadid’s Aquatic Centre.
The JW3, which opened in September 2013, has hosted thousands of events and visitor numbers are expected to reach 250,000 in its first year of operation, prompting Kevin Spacey to enthuse that “every community should have a JW3”.
