Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands crowned Architect of the Year
We are thrilled to announce that last night (Thursday 7th December) at the inaugural Architects’ Journal Awards, we were awarded three gongs. Best Housing Project for Paradise Gardens, Best Mixed Use for Fitzroy Place and Architect of the Year.
Huge thanks to the AJ and all the judges.
“Double winner Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands has taken home the first ever Architect of the Year title from the AJ Architecture Awards.
With its Fitzroy Place and Paradise Gardens projects, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands triumphed in two separate categories this year (Mixed-Use and Housing respectively), wowing the judges with buildings that nestle into the capital beautifully and add something special to it.
The former – designed in collaboration with Sheppard Robson – was praised as a sophisticated piece of cityscape with a ‘real heart to it’, while the three judges who visited the latter struggled to find fault with its superb design and execution.
Architects increasingly need commercial nous as well as design talent to succeed and Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands appears to have it in spades. At Paradise Gardens, a Private Rented Sector scheme located half a mile away from the practice’s west London studio, the firm acted as architect, client and operator. As a result, it has given a rare degree of consideration to post-occupancy issues such as maintenance, as well as design – an approach which will surely benefit both its finances and its future architectural endeavours.
This is evidently a practice at the top of its game, impressively augmenting the highest standards of design with real business savvy.”
