Hat-trick of awards to round off 2022
We finished 2022 on a very good note with three prestigious design awards. This adds to the pride we feel for completing the Illuminated River, lighting nine Thames bridges with art for the Illuminated River Foundation, and Hanover for GPE – a significant mixed-use scheme above the new Elizabeth Line Bond Street station.
Our Illuminated River project in collaboration with Leo Villareal Studio for the Illuminated River Foundation was awarded ‘Architectural lighting design of the year’ in the Dezeen Awards (2022) and the Royal Fine Arts Building Commission Trust’s Building Beauty Awards 2022 for Public Space Award, which celebrates the best of beautiful new architecture.
A free public artwork illuminating nine Thames bridges in London, it was designed to celebrate the architecture and engineering of each structure.
The judges said: “The Illuminated River lighting design for the Thames is the project that is most generous for the public, illuminating where we work and live. The design brings the theatre of lighting to the everyday.”
Hanover for GPE won Mixed Use Project in the Architects Journal Architecture Awards 2022.
The judge’s comments recognise the complexity of this scheme: “The heritage elements are incredible, and the new components fit really well. It is successful mixed-use, to a demanding brief, and feels comfortable as part of the urban realm. There is real skill in pulling this altogether – every challenge they came across, they dealt with very well.”
